Starting + Warrant = Claim (MU 13)

Premise, starting point:

The legal drinking age is currently 21 years of age but it has been known that not lowering it back to 18 has led underage people/students to have heavier drinking problems because it is the “forbidden fruit” and taken in excess.  A 2014 Indiana University study finds that those under the age of 21 are more likely to be heavy, sometimes called “binge” drinkers (consuming over 5 drinks at least once a week). For example, 22% of all students under 21 compared to 18% over 21 years of age are heavy drinkers. Among drinkers only, 32% of under age compared to 24% of legal age are heavy drinkers. <—Warrant. I can say from personal experience between myself and my friends that not being allowed to drink until we were 21 definitely made us drink recklessly when we were underage. We have a perception in our head that once we are 21 we are officially “adults” and it is not very socially acceptable to act like a buffoon anymore when we are drunk

One reason that I think the drinking age should be lowered to 18 years of age is because at 18 you are allowed to both vote and also voluntarily enlist in the military or be drafted to go to war so why are you not allowed to have a beer? My second argument is that there are fewer drunk driving traffic accidents and fatalities in many countries with the legal drinking age of 18. My final point is that the drinking age being 21 is largely ineffective because the majority of teens continue to consume alcohol and especially in an unsafe manner. The drinking age should be lowered back to 18 to prevent these problems as well as many others. <—Claim
